Hello there! I want to share some small updates that we’ve done to our kitchen since building our home. But first, I’d love to thank Pasha from Pasha is Home for including me in a fun blog hop! Together, Pasha and I, and several of our friends are going to be sharing some inspiring fall decor ideas. If you’re coming over from Pasha’s blog thanks so much for stopping by! Pasha was one of my first IG friends and I’ve even met her in “real life”. She’s just a lovely and fun person. And I just love all her kitchen updates. Her new window has transformed her kitchen! Be sure to check out all the kitchen inspiration at the end of this post. But let’s get started.
Our Kitchen
We started building our house early 2017 and moved in fall of 2017. I dreamed of the kitchen long before we started building. I wanted a two-toned kitchen, and we went with black and white. I had to have a large farmhouse sink…that’s probably my favorite part. For more about how I designed our kitchen, check out this post.
Runners
One of the very first updates that we did was add runners. I wanted a runner for under our stools as they were scratching up our wood floors. Initially, I had a small rug in front of the sink, but I wanted symmetry. I added a twin runners on both sides of the island and I just love it. You can find my runner here.
Island Rack
The next update we added was a bar on the side of our island. It’s the perfect spot for all sorts of decorating. 😁 I added some of my copper pieces to this space and I love having a small basket and a towel. I found our island bar at IKEA, but you can find a similar one here.
Open Shelves
We had a blank wall in our kitchen near the peninsula. I had baskets hung in that area, but then I thought it would be a perfect spot for some shelves! I found some wood brackets super cheap, and my husband cut some wood to fit the space. Initially, I had the brackets painted black. I wanted a more neutral look, so I painted them a cream. The shelves are stained Early American. I love changing out this space for the seasons.
Pot Rack with Copper Pots
I wanted a pot rack above the stove for a long time. And I dreamed of French copper pots hanging on it. I found the pot rack first, and then saved until I could purchase a whole set of French copper pots. I found them on Etsy and I just love them. I don’t’ use them for cooking, only for decor. You can find my pot rack here. I bought it black to blend in with my range hood, but then I wanted it to look more like brass. I used some rub n buff and I love it!
Under Cabinet Paper Towel Holder
Kitchen counter space is like real estate in NYC, right? I had an old wood paper towel holder that had made several moves with us. But I wanted the paper towels off of the counters…you always need more counter space! 😂 I found an adhesive paper towel holder and it works perfectly! You can find it here.
Lighting
The final update that we’ve done since moving in is the lighting. I didn’t change the pendants, but I did give them a small makeover. They were originally rubbed bronze. I wanted a more modern and glam look. I painted the whole thing black and then added a little rub n buff to the center part. I think it looks fabulous. You can check out how I did it here.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this little Kitchen Update. Even if you’re in a brand-new home, you can add small updates to give your home more personality and customize it to your tastes. I hope you were inspired and be sure to leave a comment below, I love to hear from you!
