Well, we made it. Barely. We barely made it. 😆 Andy and I were literally installing tile and lights today, we also finished painting and all the final touches. But we did it. And I absolutely love the results. Looking back, our master bathroom was just fine. I knew it could be better. We gave our neutral and safe master bathroom a dramatic and moody glow up. Let’s get to it.
Before and Mood Board
Let’s remember where we started. We had a functional, but plain master bathroom. It was working for us, but it really needed some personality, drama, and a little sparkle.
After
Well, we definitely have some drama and sparkle. We added a very dramatic paint color. We created a built-in cabinet with an IKEA dresser and our previous laundry room cabinets. We added tile and new light fixtures. We added shades and curtains. We changed the hardware, the countertops, and even the sinks. We did keep all the faucets and vanities.
Paint Color
I think this was one of the biggest changes we did. We originally had light and bright bathroom it’s now dramatic and moody. We went with Palace Ink by Tonester. I fell in love with this color the moment I saw it on their Instagram. I knew it would be the perfect color for our moody bathroom renovation. And it pairs well with our wallpaper that I installed last year.
Built-in
This was one of my biggest requests…more storage. Isn’t that always what we need? We don’t have an actual linen closet anywhere in our house, so I wanted a floor to ceiling cabinet to help house all the towels, sheet sets, and bedding. We used an IKEA dresser and cabinets from our laundry room to create a fabulous cabinet. You can check out more about it here.
Tile
We kept all of our original tilework: surrounding the bathtub, flooring, and shower. I never loved the shiplap behind the mirrors of our vanities, and I thought tile would be an amazing option. We went with Pearl Prism tile from The Tile Club. I had originally picked a much darker color in this style of tile, but it was back ordered. I am so glad! I love the white! And the sparkle is on point! We used a white grout to let the tile shine (and sparkle). We used Sashco’s clean seal caulk to finish the edges of the tile and countertops. Such a clean and smooth finish.
Lighting
The lighting can really change up the vibe of a space and boy are the vibes changing. We have so much light! We changed out the can light in the water closet to Fiore semi-flush mount from Alora Mood, it’s so classy. We also used the Fiore sconces from Alora Mood for our vanities. I feel like I’m a movie star getting ready. 😆 We used the 6 light olive leaf chandelier from Shades of Light for above our bathtub. I found these lightbulbs to use in all the lights. They give off so much light!
Countertops and Sinks
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…I hated our previous countertops with the sinks built in. And the rectangular sinks took too much our our countertop space. I found a local small shop called The Countertop Shop, here in Omaha to work with for the countertops and sinks. I found two remnants that were very similar in coloring for the vanities. Because the vanities are not right next to each other, I only need the remnants to be similar and not exact. Using remnants definitely helped save us money. And all the staff at The Countertop Shop were so helpful and kind to work with. I’ll definitely be going to them again in the future. We added a small bead of Sashco’s Lexel to adhere the counter to the vanity.
Hardware
We switched out all the hardware in the bathroom. We had brushed nickel for all the light fixtures, and hardware but I wanted to mix the metals. So, we went with satin brass hardware from Emtek for all the cabinet hardware, but I kept all the brushed nickel faucets. I love the brass with the wall color. It looks so good (and dramatic). We also used two different styles of hooks from Emtek for our towels.
All the Extras
We just redid our bathroom, I need new towels to go with it. The Loomia kindly gifted the softest towels I have ever felt! They are so beautiful….I cannot wait to use them! They also gifted me a gorgeous spa-like robe. I kind of can’t wait to take a shower just so I can walk around in my new robe. 😁 I found a beautiful rug for in front of the bathtub. We added woven shades and floor to ceiling curtains from a little extra drama. For the finishing touches, I added 3 pieces of artwork around the bathtub. I thought I wanted a gallery wall, but I love the simplicity of these pieces.
Conclusion
I really can’t believe we finished in time. I really didn’t think it was going to happen. And even though the One Room Challenge is 8 weeks long, it definitely didn’t take us that long. I think we could have finished the whole room in 2-3 weekends. Wait and shipping times were the main reasons for delay. I’m just so happy we finished, and I’m so pleased with the results.
