Here we are in week 5 of the One Room Challenge! I don’t feel like we have a lot accomplished. We have just started doing the built in cabinet. We have done nothing else! But I have made all my selections and I have all the product. Today, I ‘m discussing how to mix metals in a bathroom project.
Gone are the days where one color of hardware/metals is the “rule”. These days, you can mix golds and silvers, golds and blacks, etc… In our Master Bathroom, we originally went with all brushed nickel for all the fixtures. It’s fine. But I think mixing up the metals will make it more interesting. I decided to keep some brushed nickel and add in a little brass. Let’s see how I did it!
Mood Board
Let’s remember the mood board to get the whole picture of the look I’m going for.
Hardware
I have always hated our bathroom drawer pulls. We originally had pulls that matched our kitchen, but the cabinet company didn’t measure correctly, and the pulls were too wide. We had already bought them, so I kept the pulls for a project down the road and purchased affordable ones off of Amazon. These pulls are very popular, and they are fine. But my cords constantly get stuck on the edges of the pulls and I hate it. 😆
I chose a very simple cabinet pull and knob from Emtek (we worked with them for the pantry, as well) in satin brass. We will use pulls on all the drawers and knobs on the doors. We went with the 4″ orbit cabinet pull in satin brass and the globe cabinet knob in satin brass.
Lighting
I really wanted to go all out with the lighting in the bathroom. We currently have a can light over the bathtub and in the water closet. And then we have a 3 light vanity light over each mirror in brushed nickel. I went with brass again for most of the light fixtures. I’m working with Alora Lighting and Shades of Light for our lighting options in the Master Bathroom. For the vanities, I chose the 2 light Fiore in brushed gold, it will be mounted vertically. I chose the same product line for the water closet, but in a flush mount, also in brushed gold. For above the tub, I went with the 6 light Olive Leaf Convertible Chandelier in white from Shades of Light. I think this chandelier will be a statement, but the white color will allow it to be more understated.
Faucets
We are keeping all our original faucets in brushed nickel. They are all for Moen and in very good condition. I think polished nickel would be what I would choose, if I was changing the faucets. I really love this one for the sinks.
Conclusion
In the end, do what makes you happy when designing your home. I definitely have different tastes than when we built our home 7 years ago. And some things, like light and hardware are easy to change out, but can create a dramatic difference. I cannot believe we only have 3 weeks left of the One Room Challenge. We still have so much to do! Be sure to check out all the other amazing projects on the One Room Challenge Blog. Until next time Treasure Hunters!
