White tees, they never really go out of style, right? But these days, they are very trendy. I must admit, I don’t really own a really good one. As a 40-something year old, I want a T-shirt that is not see through and it cannot be tight. I love the layered look of a tee under a sweater or sweatshirt. I also don’t want to spend a ton of money. You will not find $50 t-shirts in this lineup. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with spending that much, I’m just not going to. 😂 Please note, I tried all tees on with the same pair of Madewell jeans (they’re my current fave). All of these tees are in size medium, unless otherwise noted. I tried on 10 different white t-shirts, and I found several that I really loved. But in the end, there is only one winner. So, let’s get to it!
Gap Crewneck T-Shirt
Here is our winner! I absolutely love this one. The material is so soft, and the price is good. It’s tuckable. It has a straight silhouette with a relaxed fit. And it’s currently on sale!
Abercrombie Easy Tee
This one is pretty much tied with the gap one. I really love the weight of this tee. And I love how high the crewneck goes. This one is perfect for layering under a sweater or sweatshirt. It’s nice and boxy. It does run quite large. I ordered a medium and I’m exchanging it for a small. This Tee is a little shorter in length than the other, but still tuckable and definitely not a crop top.
Target
A very budget friendly option. This one is really good, and I ended up keeping it. This tee has a regular fit with a soft and breathable fabric. It is not see through. It’s definitely worth the buy.
Old Navy
This one was almost my number one….I really love it. The fit is a great relaxed fit. It hits below the waist (I ordered a tall). The material feels higher end and is so soft. I think this one is the best affordable option.
Madewell
I already had this one. It’s not a true white color, more off-white. But this style of tee is one of my favorites and I have this top in other colors. It’s not super long, but still tuckable. And it’s not see-through. I feel like you can dress it up or down.
Amazon Style One
I tried out 2 styles from Amazon and this one was my favorite. It’s Hanes, so it reminds me of my dad. And it fits like your dad’s t-shirt or your boyfriend/husband’s t-shirt. I really like it. The price is great. The material is soft and has a nice weight to it.
Amazon Style Two
This is the second style that I chose from Amazon. It comes in a 2 pack and is a little tighter fit. It was not what I was going for. But it definitely would work for layering under sweaters or sweatshirts. The material is really nice and soft too.
J. Crew
This one has a really pretty detail in the back. I liked the material, but I feel like it has the potential to be see-through. It was very soft and tuckable. I just didn’t love it.
Banana Republic
This one is the last on my list because it’s not a structured tee. The material is really nice because it’s a linen blend. I feel like it’s more of a dressy tee and that’s not what I wanted. The fit was more flowy and the material was really light weight.
The V-Neck
I had to throw in a V-neck option…mainly because I already own it. This is the only size large tee in the grouping. But I love Madewell and their pieces are built to last. The material is soft. The tee is tuckable. I like the little pocket detail. It’s the perfect v-neck, in my opinion. (The pocket tee is not available in white, only gray, but it’s on sale.)
Conclusion
My overall pick is the gap tee with the Abercrombie tee trailing very close behind. So which ones did I keep? I already had the Madewell tee and the V-neck tee. I kept the Target one, Gap, and I have a smaller size coming in the Abercrombie one. I almost kept the Old Navy and the J. Crew. But how many white tees does one actually need? I think it’s good to have a couple different styles and weights and it’s always good to have a very affordable back up. Be sure to check out my Instagram.
