How to Create a Cottage Style Summer Table

Ahhhhh, Summer! It’s my favorite season and the perfect time for outdoor dining. I’ve been wanting a metal outdoor dining set and I found one on FB marketplace. It’s painted white and just so cute. The question is…do I paint it black? I just can’t decide.

Dining Set

So, like I said, I found this table and chairs set on FB marketplace. It’s in good condition and perfect for our covered deck. The deck is pretty good size, off our living and dining area. We have a two-sided fireplace in our living room that connects to the deck.

Setting the Table

The white dining set screams cottage to me. I used a throw as a tablecloth to soften the look. I love the texture of the woven round placemats…I use them on almost all of my tablescapes. I was clearly going with a blue and pink theme…so I love the blue and white check plate layered with our everyday dishes. A cloth napkin in my favorite color gives the perfect pop of pink.

I love using brass/gold flatware. Can you believe that these are plastic? If you don’t want to go out and buy a gold set (because who knows how long that will be trendy), just buy a set of plastic. You’ll get the same effect without the high price tag.

I clipped some greenery from a bush in our yard and added some of my peonies to each place setting. The pink and white arrangement is faux! I love mixing real and faux.

Setting the Mood

Outdoor dining wouldn’t be complete without candles, am I right? And here in Nebraska, you have to have candles to keep the freaking bugs away. The bugs here are crazy! Citronella would be my choice for candles near and on the table.

What’s up Next?

We’re definitely going to hang some bistro lighting from the beams and ceiling…I can’t decide if I want to do white or black. And maybe a chandelier with candles…that would look really cute. I could even do battery powered candles with a remote! I think we need some more plants, as well. I’d love to add some kind of speakers for some music and also some additional seating. I really want one of those hanging bed/benches. Oh, Handy Andy! 😉
