We made it through another week of the One Room Challenge. Be sure to check out all the amazing projects on their blog here. Just to recap…we are creating a theater/media room in our basement. This was a 95% unfinished space, but things are really coming along. Last week, we completed the framing and this week we completed the drywall.
For this week’s blog post, I’m going to go over the rugs and how I chose the one we ultimately went with. But first, let’s take a look at the Mood Board. The vibe we’re going for is dark, moody, and cozy.

Why is a Rug Important?
Instead of boring you with drywall details, let’s talk about something fun…like rugs! We have a lot of animals (and I mean a lot), so there is a lot of hair. We decided when we built this home, we wouldn’t have any carpet. We were only going to go with hardwood floors or something that looks like hardwood floors. We’re going with 2 different types of flooring in our media room: hardwoods on the platform and LVP (luxury vinyl plank) on the rest. In order to warm up the space and define the viewing areas, we needed a rug. In fact, we need two. The great thing about rugs is that you can really change up the vibe of a space with just changing out the rug. You can go with a totally different color palette and completely change your room! Let’s get to it!
Rug #1
I didn’t want the whole room to be completely dark, so I really like this rug because it has a lighter color palette. This is from the Amber Lewis collection with Loloi rugs. It’s from the Georgie collection, in the color Ocean and Sand. I really like it. Even the though colors are more pink-ish, I think it’s still a neutral. I love how vintage it looks.

Rug #2
This next rug is more modern, but it has a cozy vibe with the thicker pile and fringe. This is from the Alice collection between Loloi rugs and Chris loves Julia in the color cream/charcoal. I love the geometrical pattern and contrasting colors.

Rug #3
The final rug is kinda in between the other two…it’s kinda vintage and modern. I love all the colors and the striped patter is really fun. This is from the Humphrey collection by Loloi and Chris loves Julia in the color Natural/Moss.

And the Chosen Rug is:
The Humphrey from Loloi and Chris loves Julia. I love the colors and the mix of vintage and modern. And I think it’ll be the best rug to hide any spills (because you know there will be spills). We will have two 5×7 rugs in the room. One will be one the upper platform and the other will be on the main floor. Here’s the mood board with the chosen rug. I think it’s going to look amazing with all the dark colors in the room.

Conclusion
Next week is the halfway point! How crazy it that? We’ll be finishing the flooring the wood and the LVP. We’ll be picking a stain to match the LVP (probably won’t’ be easy). So, stay tuned for the Treasure Hunters! Be sure to check out all the amazing projects on the One Room Challenge Blog. Until next time!
