It’s time again for the One Room Challenge! We decided to participate again for the fall challenge and I’m so excited! Last time, I was nervous, but now I’m just ready to get going! We are going to be finishing a room in our unfinished basement. We will be creating a theater room from scratch. Let’s check it out!

Current Room
The current room is a (messy) blank slate. We basically use our basement as storage. And it’s a lot of storage. We have so much junk down there. I keep telling Andy that we need a large dumpster so we can get rid of all the unnecessary stuff.
The basement rooms were all framed in when we built our home. So, this room has a basic room frame, but nothing else. As you can see, we have a sofa and lots of other stuff. I have a lot of my scrapbooking stuff in here and some of Noah’s Lego creations. It all has to go!

Mood Board
I perused Pinterest for some ideas for the theater/media room. I really wanted something dark and moody. I want it to feel cozy, but not small and cluttered. I want to include some non-tradition seating as well. I’d love some movie theater posters or some other type of artwork…but keeping it pretty simple.

Plans
What do we plan on doing? We will be creating a platform for staggered seating. The seating in the back will be raised up. Then we will also have seating in the front. I’d love some theater seating (won’t happen for the reveal as production times are crazy delayed). So, we may end up using furniture that we already have. We will have some kind of TV console under the mounted TV to house all the electrical. We’ll have a large TV with surround sound. We will also be building a built-in daybed area. I would love to use vertical shiplap in that area.
I want to go dark with the paint color, but not black. We’ll be painted the walls, trim, and ceiling all the same color. I want to add some beautiful and unique lighting. We will be using left over wood floors from our upper level on the platform and then Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring for the rest. I hope to have a snack bar with a popcorn maker. Wouldn’t that be fun?
Stay tuned for all the fun in the next 8 weeks! And be sure to check out all the other ORC projects here.
Until next time Treasure Hunter!
