When creating the mood board for the Laundry Room, I knew I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and do something fun. One of the ways I thought we could add interest to the Laundry Room was with wallpaper. I tried several different samples from Milton & King and ultimately decided on the Tropicana print in Beige. I love the description of the wallpaper on their website:
The Tropicana Wallpaper design is inspired by the tropical birds that started to appear in wallpaper and textiles during the 1700’s in France. Like foreign fruit, birds with all new patterns and colors were coming from all around the world inspiring artists and designers alike. Many of these new species were from tropical environments and seemingly exotic to the French socialites. Bethany Linz chose delicate fan palms, ferns and crested parrots. However, she wanted this design to be more modern so she stripped it of color, painting it in all white making for a more elegant and versatile wallpaper design

Types of Wallpaper
There are several different types of wallpaper. I’m putting them into 3 categories, and I’ll discuss them in further detail. The wallpaper that we chose from Milton and King is the Paste-to-wall type of wallpaper and I believe it’s the easiest to install.
Peel and stick
This type of wallpaper has a sticky backing and ready to be applied without any additional glue or water. All you need to do is peel the thin plastic from the back and hang your wallpaper. This is made for people who are looking for more temporary wallpaper options, including renters. You can hang it and take it down when needed.
We have this type of wallpaper in the guest room, and you can read about it here. The seams are hard to cover, and it can get stretched out if you have to adjust it too many times.
Pre-pasted
This wallpaper has glue embedded into the back of it. The glue is not detectable until water is applied. You can do this by spraying the back with a sprayer or water bottle. Another way is to unwind the rolls and dunk each sheet into a trough filled with water. We have never tried this type of wallpaper, personally. But we had several rooms in our home growing up with this type of wallpaper.
Paste to Wall
When using Paste-the-Wall wallpaper, the paste is applied directly to the wall before hanging each strip. This wallpaper is made with a special non-woven backing paper that does not expand when wet; meaning, it does not need to soak as in other application methods. This is the type of wallpaper we are using for our Laundry Room Makeover.
Installation
We had a fairly small room to do, so installation didn’t take too long. I think overall, it took us 4-5 hours. We are definitely amateurs, a professional probably could have done it in less time. I thought the paste to the wall application was pretty easy. We used this type of paste.
Supplies
So, what will you need in order to complete this project? You’ll need just a few tools, but they are critical to ensure the project is done correctly and with ease.
- Wallpaper-we chose this beautiful French inspired elegant print
- Paste
- Wallpaper smoother tool
- Paint brush
- Paint roller
- Tape measure
- Utility Knife
- Sponge
- Scissors
Reveal
I am so happy with how the laundry room turned out! The wallpaper really made the room feel fancy! I love the neutral feel of it, as well. This wallpaper come in several other colors to suit everyone’s needs.
Conclusion
If you’re on the fence on whether to try wallpaper, I would recommend the paste to wall type. Milton & King has so many different patterns, it’s hard to choose just one. The Tropicana print that we chose looks amazing in our Laundry Room, but I think it would work in a bedroom (especially a guest room), an entryway, or the Living Room.
