What is a Butter Board?
This is a new type of charcuterie board that went viral on Tik Tok. Basically, you spread a bunch of butter on board and serve it with different types of bread or crackers. Yep, it’s really that simple. 😁 I’m going to share my take on the butter board and how I made it spooky for Halloween! Let’s get to it!
But first, if you’re coming over from Tracy’s Blog, Just Tracy Talk, I’d like to Welcome you! I just love her amazing Butter Board. It looks so delicious! Also, I’d like to thank Kristy for including me in this fun Blog Hop! Be sure to check all the fun Halloween ideas at the end of this post.
Types of Boards
I think most of the butter boards are being made with the traditional wooden cutting board. I was kinda worried about sanitization, so I used a marble board. It’s nice and big and easy to clean. I probably would not use any vintage wood cutting boards for this, again due to sanitary reasons. 😂
Spreads
Okay, so obviously we’re going to use butter for a butter board. But I think you can use anything you can spread. Think of using peanut butter or caramel. You could use cream cheese or Nutella. For my butter board, I’m using unsalted butter and cream cheese.
Toppings
I mean the sky is the limit here. People are using all sorts of things on top of the butters/spreads. You could keep it very simple and just do flaky salt and maybe some honey. Or you could go all out with nuts and jams. I’m using Everything but the Bagel seasoning and black olives (for spiders 🕷️).
Butter Board…Assemble!
I used the back of a spoon to create a wave effect on my board. Just take the back of your spoon, grab a dollop of your spread and smear it on your board. Just keep doing that until you have the amount that you want on your board. Keep in mind, this takes a lot of butter. I used 3 sticks of softened butter for my board and 2 blocks of softened cream cheese.
I smeared the cream cheese in the same manner, just going the opposite direction.
Then, I sprinkled the Everything but the Bagel seasoning all over the butter and cream cheese.
To make the spiders, I used a whole black olive for the body and then used sliced black olives for the legs. I only did 6 legs for each spider…it just worked out better.
I wanted to use some kind of crusty bread or bread chips for this board. I found some slim baguettes at Costco that worked perfectly. I just cut them into small slices and added them to the board.
And there ya have it! A very simple idea for an appetizer board for Halloween. You could add small spreading knives to avoid double dipping, if that freaks you out (like it does me 😂). Next up, is Kristy with At Home with Kristy. I just love her idea for a Halloween Charcuterie Board. It looks delicious and perfect for Fall! Be sure to check out all the delicious ideas!
